Question

How does a three-generation oil mill hold its own against national brands?

Answer
By turning its heritage into a premium shelf presence people trust at first glance.

Thangam is a family-run oil mill from Madurai that has been cold-pressing groundnut, sesame and coconut oil the slow way for over sixty years. Loyal customers knew the quality. New shoppers walking down a modern supermarket aisle did not.

Our task was to give Thangam a packaging system as rich as the oil inside: one that signals purity and craft at a glance, without losing the warmth of a family business.

Range of maroon and gold oil bottles and tin

Sixty years of slow-pressed oil deserved a pack that felt just as considered.

We started where the oil starts: the groundnut plant. Its leaves, pods and roots became an emblem, rendered in gold foil on a deep maroon that no competitor on the shelf was using. Every bottle, tin and pouch now carries the same seal of care.

The old wordmark was generic and forgettable. The new identity pairs a groundnut-plant emblem, its pods drawn as a cluster of gold seeds, with a warm, classic serif that speaks of craft and continuity.

On shelf, the maroon and gold block reads from the end of the aisle. Shoppers find Thangam first, and recognise it every time after.
